Stephanie Torbeck joined the Green Park faculty in 2000 after teaching at Grace Lutheran in San Mateo, CA.  She is an integral part of the GP faculty having conceptualized and written a grant marrying the Balanced Literacy curriculum with 1:1 iPads for K-2 learners.

“I love it when I get to share in the moment a child realizes he/she is, in fact, a reader.”

    Her favorite books?

“Tikki Tikki Tembo” by Arlene Mosel.  I would always have my babysitters read this story because one of the main characters is a boy named Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo.  I loved to see if they could say his name correctly without stopping.  (Yes I was checking for fluency and phonemic awareness even as a child.)

Favorite books to read to my class?  Junie B. Jones series (late kindergarten – students are able to separate fiction from reality) or Mo Williams.  I also love “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds and “Press Here” by Herve Tullet.
