Each new school year brings a fresh start and exciting changes. Join us as we begin he 57th year of ministry at Green Park and celebrate.
Junior Kindergarten has more than doubled. Last year’s launch of JK on campus brought 3 & 4 year old energy to our school and was a great success. This year? The program has doubled warranting two more hires and lots more seats in the lunchroom. Mrs. Amanda Daniels joins the GP faculty as the JK3 teacher and Mrs. Michelle Barnes returns at the JK4s teacher.
Second grade adopts flexible seating options. Mr. Heuerman’s second graders were surprised to step into his newly remodeled classroom with less desks. The room allows kids to have more freedom and personal space but at the same time an outlet to release energy. He saw the success of a classroom like this years ago while student teaching. After even more research and preparation, he’s decided to adopt it, too. “For my kids I know where they do homework varies day to day. I appreciate structure and routine and I’m adding freedom of choice and flexibility.” In addition to a newly designed classroom, this Second Grade Teacher will be GP’s Assistant Athletic Director.
New Tutoring Program for K-4. With a simple message in association church bulletins, Green Park’s new Tutoring Program received a wild response. “It was incredible to see so many people at our first meeting. I loved seeing all the familiar faces.” remarked Debbie Prange. Former GP parents grandparents, former tutors…20 in all. Managed by Mrs. Beth Meyer (1st) and Mrs. Debbie Prange (Reading & Math Specialist), the volunteers will be working with K-4 students on Reading and Math.
New Lutheran South Band Director homegrown at GPLS. Welcome Mr. Evan Sanft. Little did he know when he picked up the trumpet in 5th grade band here at Green Park, Mr. Sanft was starting a career. From Junior Winds to success at Lutheran South, this 2003 GPLS grad was destined for instrumental success. “Our class from Green Park was one of the best instrumental groups coming through middle and high school.” Mr. Sanft studied at Concordia University in Chicago and recently relocated to St. Louis from Minnesota where he was teaching. He is excited about the position at Lutheran South and especially happy to be back at Green Park. “Mr. Hesse is just as tall as I remember him.”
The Great American Eclipse: What an incredible opportunity for us to be together in school! Join us as we experience the path of totality together here at Green Park. 7th grade students have been studying the eclipse since spring and visiting classes to prepare students. Parents and volunteers are encouraged to join us as we make students’ safety our priority.
GIFTED. This year’s theme comes from Ephesians 2:-8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing but it is a gift of God so that no one can boast.” It’s a chance for us to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with plenty of GRACE. Join us as we study ways we’ve all been gifted and learn about ways we’ll use those gifts to God’s glory. Chapel is every 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Wednesday 8:30-9:00am. Everyone is welcome.
SMART Boards in JK classrooms. With an intentional plan to care for the youngest learners on campus, 3 and 4 year olds in the building are being set up to learn in different ways. Late this summer interactive white boards were installed in the Junior Kindergarten classrooms adding an additional tool for teaching.
