The National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in official Honor Society activities. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Being a member of a national organization like NJHS holds a great deal of responsibility.  Students who possess excellence in scholarship, show leadership in the community, serve others, are persons of good character, good citizens and work together are considered. Members achieve and maintain a 3.5 GP or higher semester average in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade.  This is the equivalent to High Honors or Highest Honors academic recognition.  Once a candidate, students are given an activity form to complete outlining acts of service and leadership.  The application is reviewed by the faculty council and rated individually.

Calling all 6th & 7th graders!  Pay close attention to your GPA at the end of this semester, look for ways to serve and lead at school, home, church and community.  January 2015 the faculty council will again be looking to identify qualifying students for induction next spring.
