The 7th & 8th grade girls’ volleyball team at Green Park Lutheran School won the state championship competition LSAM (Lutheran Sports Association of Missouri) in Concordia, Missouri November 17. The team record for the season in sets was 86-6 and match record was 45-1.
The team included four eighth grade students Sarah Baese, Emma Hopfer, Maddie Horn and Emma Lind. A look back at the past two seasons for these players proves an incredible achievement at 156-10 in set record and 81-4 in matches.
The team is coached by Mr. Phil Griffith and Mrs. Kathy Lind. When asked to comment, Coach Griffith said:
“The author Leo Buscaglia once wrote: ‘Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.’ I gave that quote to the team early in the season and at the time I didn’t know if it had really sunk in. As the season progressed, I realized that it very much had registered with them. They practiced and played almost every day at the highest possible level they could achieve. Rarely did you see anything but 100% effort and 100% positive attitude. I’ve coached quite a few years and I’ve had good teams and not so good teams. I have never had a team that gave so much and worked so hard from top to bottom. I’m proud of these girls.”
