Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

-Hebrews 13:8

How fitting it is this year to remind one another in a world of changing statuses that Jesus Christ is unchanging! This year’s school theme verse at Green Park is Christ is the same FOREVER. He is our forever friend and we’re thankful for this unchanging status in our life.

The Chi Rho symbol is comprised of the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ. It is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) symbols for Christ. Interesting points – our God chose to have His New Testament written in the Greek language. It “just so happens” that superimposing these two Greek letters evokes the image of a cross, even a Person on a cross. Additionally, it turns out that the “chi rho” symbol was used much like highlighter (in the days before our fancy writing utensils) by pagan Greek scholars. In effect, seeing this symbol next to a block of writing would be like seeing a starred, underlined, and highlighted passage, something that would scream to any intelligent and learned Greek person: “HEY! PAY ATTENTION TO THIS! THIS IS THE GOOD STUFF HERE!” And then finally, in the awesomeness that is God’s chiastic structure, all of divinely inspired Scripture, the whole gorgeous story of redemption hinges on Christ. He is the peripeteia or “Pin” (capital P) on which the whole story pivots, and it was made possible through his willingness to hang on a cross (X). 2 Cor 5:21.
Jesus is forever. In summary, He’s mind blowing…even on a slow day.

Special thanks to Nate Paul (GPLS ’96) and his wife, Deaconess Kris Paul, for their thoughtfulness and design.
